Meet The Therapist

Jane Maywood | Registered Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist (PACT) | Developmental Movement Therapist | Aletheia Life Coach (IFS approved training) |

With over two decades of experience in somatic therapy, education, and coaching, I bring a deeply grounded and compassionate approach to my work with babies, children, and adults. My practice centres on supporting meaningful and lasting change. At the heart of my approach is a respect for the body’s innate capacity to self-regulate and a belief in the intelligence and resources that live within each of us. I began practicing Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) in 2014, completing my diploma with Body Intelligence under the guidance of Ged Sumner and Steve Haines. Since then, I’ve continued to study and refine my work through post graduate trainings. I am a registered member of the Pacific Association of Craniosacral Therapists (PACT). As a practitioner, I bring presence, precision, and curiosity to each session. Every session is a meeting with the client’s unfolding process, where the goal isn’t to fix but to support what is already seeking resolution from within. The art of cranial work lies in recognising these moments and knowing how to support them without interruption or agenda.

In addition to my private practice, I assist in teaching and mentoring new practitioners through the Body Intelligence Diploma program. This international school trains BCST practitioners around the world, and I am honoured to contribute to the development of this growing community .My therapeutic perspective is also informed by my earlier work as a Developmental Movement Therapist. Since 2001, I’ve supported children with developmental delay, drawingon a Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Learning Difficulties) and decades ofexperience in the field of neurodevelopment. In 2022, I became an Aletheia Coach, after training with Steve March, the founder of Integral Unfoldment. Aletheia Coaching is a somatically focused, Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed modality that integrates attachment theory, presence work, systems thinking, and process-oriented inquiry. It complements BCST beautifully and supports clients in developing a deeper relationship with Self and with life. My ongoing professional development includes a passion for Continuum Movement, mindfulness practices, and presence-based work. I love sharing this work and spent three years teaching mindfulness and embodiment at the Fremantle Yoga Centre.Beyond the clinic, my commitment to working biodynamically continues with a biodynamicfermenting business I run with my partner. We craft a health-supportive product called Bio-Beet Kvass—an organic, biodynamic lacto-ferment that supports gut health and is distributed nationally. This work is an extension of my deep interest in life processes and healing, and reflects my belief that health can be cultivated in many interconnected ways. Working biodynamically—from the Greek “bio” (life) and “dynamic” (force)—has been a life long path. Whether through therapeutic touch, crafting food, or supporting the innerun folding of clients, my work is always an invitation to reconnect with the intelligence of life itself.

What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?
Untitled design-67_edited.jpg

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a subtle yet profoundly effective hands-ont therapy that supports the body’s innate capacity for self-regulation, healing, and vitality. Emerging from the field of Osteopathy over a century ago, BCST has continued to evolve—deeply informed by anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, trauma theory, and pain research. More than a treatment for symptoms, BCST honours the uniqueness of each individual – health looks and feels different for every person. It’s a therapy that speaks to the whole person—physical, emotional, and spiritual—helping clients feel more grounded, resilient, and engaged with life. At the heart of BCST is the regulation of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), the mastercontroller of our physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. Through gentle, attuned, non-doing touch, BCST supports the system to shift out of survival states – such as chronic stress, hyperarousal, or collapse, leading to a profound recalibration of the nervous system and relief from long-held symptoms. As the client’s body begins to feel safe their vagal tone increases and the deep inner resources we refer to as “Health” emerge more fully—not asthe absence of symptoms, but as an active healing presence. One of the unique gifts of this work is its ability to access and resolve the impacts of trauma. Many of the symptoms people live with—chronic pain, anxiety, fatigue, digestive issues, sleep disturbances—are expressions of unresolved survival patterns within the nervous system. BCST provides a safe and responsive space allowing the body to reorganise, from the inside out - without reactivating the trauma and without having to remember or verbalise the trauma. It’s increasingly recognised as a leading therapy for trauma resolution and functional rehabilitation.

Embodiment plays a central role in this process. BCST helps clients to reconnect with the felt sense of their body—their interoceptive awareness. This cultivates a deeper trust in their body and enhances their ability to regulate emotional and physical states, make healthier choices, and live with greater ease and authenticity. Whether someone is feeling shut down and disconnected, or overwhelmed and overstimulated, this work meets them where they are and gently supports them toward being able to make choices from an inner knowing rather than external pressure. Our experience of life is better when we feel connected to our body and have a choice in our own healing and process.Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy resonates with what is known in contemporary cognitive science as the 4E model of cognition—the understanding that our mind and body are Embodied, Embedded, Enacted, and Extended. In other words, healing doesn’t just happen inside us; it unfolds in relationship—with others, with our environment, and with the natural world. This therapy honours that interconnectedness. As we settle, reorient, and reconnect to our own system, we become more open to the rhythms of life around us—more at tuned to the ecology of our own being and the greater web we’re part of.In a world of constant stimulation, BCST offers a rare invitation: to slow down, listen inward, and reconnect with the deep evolutionary intelligence that has shaped life for millions of years. This is a therapy of presence, of relationship, and of returning home to ourselves. To learn more about what sessions involve, please visit the [FAQs page].

What to expect during a Craniosacral Therapy Session

Each session begins with a short consultation, allowing time to discuss your health history,

current concerns, and intentions for the session. This initial conversation helps guide the

treatment and supports a sense of collaboration and trust.

Sessions typically take place on a massage table, with the client fully clothed and

comfortably supported, often lying on the back. A light blanket is provided for warmth and

ease. However, the position is always adapted to suit individual needs—some clients prefer to

lie on their side, sit in a chair, or, in the case of children, engage in quiet play on the floor.

This is a client-led therapy that meets you where you are.

Unlike massage, there is no oil, pressure, or manipulation involved. Contact is gentle and

still, beginning with a light touch—often on the sides of the feet—to attune to the rhythms

and patterns within the body. Here an initial hands-on assessment is made and a treatment

pathway forward will begin to emerge. With the client’s permission I will then move where

the body seems to be seeking the most support, often in key areas such as the spine,

diaphragm, or head. The “non-doing” quality of contact helps the nervous system to register

safety, allowing for the body to regulate and deeply rest. As the body regulates there is often

a gentle release of systemic tension and long held patterns or protective reflexes (including

past trauma).

As the session progresses, clients often enter a quiet, meditative state. There may be a natural

alternation between dialogue and silence as the system settles. Sensations that feel like small

adjustments, along with subtle changes in temperature, a tingling in the arms and/or legs, or a

gentle release of emotion may also arise. Some clients experience a light dreamlike state,

while others feel more alert yet inwardly calm.

What emerges is unique to each person, but commonly includes a sense of ease and

relaxation, relief from symptoms, a renewed sense of vitality, and a deeper connection to

oneself. Over time, many clients notice an increased resilience in their health and wellbeing,

a sense of being more grounded and centred, emotional clarity and a growing capacity to

meet life with presence and meaning.
